Sarah and Steve are getting married at The Ashes wedding venue in Staffordshire at the end of September and due to Sarah working shifts as a nurse, we decided to use the Bank Holiday to meet up to go through the schedule for the day and to have a bit of a pre-wedding shoot. As they’d been down at the Ashes today for their final planning meeting, we chose to meet at Curbar Edge in Derbyshire, about 12 miles south of Sheffield, as they travelled back home. Leaving Wakefield, the weather was really warm and sunny but by the time we got to Curbar, it had really clouded over and there was a threatening sky looming. Undeterred, we made it up onto the edge to get the shoot in before the rain came and as none of us had any coats or jumpers, we drew looks of consternation from the walkers passing by in full winter gear :¬) However, it wasn’t as cold as it looked, though it was windy, and we made the most of the flowering heather and the rocky outcrop for around half an hour or so. I was keen to do a pre-wedding shoot with these guys as I wanted to get a feeling for how best to shoot them and get round the height difference which is pretty obvious – if they stand side by side and I point a telephoto at Steve poor old Sarah isn’t even in the frame! Anyway, we did our best and had a laugh and I think we got some great images for them to choose a signing board picture to stand alongside the cake.
I’m looking forward to the shooting The Ashes venue as its a couple of years since I last did a gig there and then it was in its infancy but even so I could see the potential. If you’ve not heard of The Ashes, look it up: its a Jacobean Manor house that has had the stables and outbuildings converted specifically for wedding functions. Very nice!
