Travel Photography: The Camargue

The blog’s been quiet of late due to school holidays and also my recent 5 day shoot down in the south of France in the Camargue. The Camargue is hot and dry region that was once a huge area of saltmarsh but agriculture is taking its toll on the region and the once pristine wildlife habitat is now shrinking to a fraction of its former self and remains at it’s best in the protected national park region. Although well known to bird and wildlife enthusiasts as a region rich in species, the Camargue is also famous for its breed of white horses. The stocky, short-legged horse of the region is well known in France and is a big feature of the area with stables and pony trekking everywhere you turn. However, I went there not for trekking but to photograph these famous horses running in the sea and through the marismas (saltmarsh). Cliched I know, but I just wanted to do it! I also spent many hours photographing the flamingos of the Camargue as well as many other species of herons and egrets. I shot over 100gb of images (around 6000 shots!) so editing will be a mammoth process and the used CF cards are stacked on my desk like gaming chips!
