Anna & Danny’s wedding at Ettington Park

What a difference a day makes! After yesterday’s monsoon conditions in Barnsley, the sun was shining gloriously over the Midlands and Ettington Park for Anna and Danny’s wedding today. Due to a wedding at Ettington the previous day having all the rooms booked, Anna had to prepare at The Bell at Alderminster before making the short trip to Ettington to get her dress on ahead of the wedding. Unfortunately at Ettington, we only had the use of a conference room for the dressing and this backed onto a small kitchen courtyard which wasn’t ideal but at least it gave us the chance to shoot outside before moving on to the ceremony. There was a nice ornate fire escape though which made for a good prop and we made use of this for many of the shots. After the ceremony it was out on the lawns for drinks and photos and a big party before ending the day dancing to the band in the Long Room.

David & Joanne’s wet wedding at Cannon Hall

I met David and Joanne when I did the photos for the websites of their hog roast company and butcher’s shop in Denby Dale and today I was pleased to be shooting their wedding. Despite a dry and sunny start to the day, the forecast was correct for once and the heavens opened on Joanne and David’s wedding at Cannon Hall! We started the day with the bridal preps at the fabulous farmhouse where Joanne grew up and it was so nice to have loads of space to work with instead of the usual confines of a small hotel room. The house was full of people getting ready including Joanne’s sister and her family who had flown in from Canada for the wedding but the busy atmosphere made for some great images. We just managed a few bridal shots before the showers started but they lulled us into a false sense of excitement as they passed over and bright sun followed. By the time we reached Cannon Hall, the rain had begun and as we came out after the ceremony, it was just torrential! We did all the formals in the library at the museum before dashing to the cars to head back to Joanne and David’s farm at Upper Cumberworth for the reception in a marquee. Getting to the marquee was a feat in itself with the ground resembling the battlefield at the Somme! Everywhere was a quagmire but it didn’t dampen the party spirit and a good time was had by all. We even managed a few shots with the amazing old Buick  at the farm in a 10 minute window between the storms. After leaving Joanne and David as they sat down to home reared roast beef, we headed south on the M1 to the next venue at Ettington Park,  Alderminster in almost monsoon conditions!

Pre-wedding: Ella & Keiran at The Hepworth

Ella and Keiran are getting married at the end of the month and have organised everything in a last minute whirlwind, including booking me just a few weeks ago after meeting me at their cousin Sarah’s wedding at Kings Croft Hotel! So, with only a week to go, we met up for a pre-wedding meeting so I could get the details for the big day but also to have a pre-wedding shoot with them. We met at my studio then nipped off to the country lanes near Woolley for the shoot but we were racing against a rapidly setting sun! It’s amazing how the nights are drawing in just at the moment. Still, despite the lack of my trusty lighting assistant, I managed to get some images I was pleased with while wielding a pro DSLR body and fast 70-200mm one handed (for the uninitiated, that’s like two house bricks in one hand!) and holding the flash high with the other hand before finally getting out the softbox and lightstand as I should have done originally :¬)  The couple are to be married at Thurstoneland near Huddersfield before heading off to The Hepworth restaurant (formerly Cragrats) for their reception. Going to be a good do I reckon given the way they performed tonight :¬)

Glamour shoot with Victoria

Local girl Victoria booked in for a glamour shoot to re-kindle her modelling career and today we were in the studio. Victoria contacted me about 15months ago but we never managed to arrange anything and, after several shoots with amateurs and not getting the right images, she finally booked in with me :¬)  Ok, so I’m blowing my own trumpet here but these images are so far above anything she’s had done before and she was amazed just seeing them on the camera’s small LCD screen. It’s very satisfying to exceed the client’s expectation – for me that’s job done! When you book me for a shoot, you are booking an experienced full time photographer that understands how light works, how certain lenses produce a much more flattering image and is also experienced in coaching the model to get the poses that work. The shoots are always fun and relaxed and I think it shows in Victoria’s images. I’m sure I will be seeing her again in the not too distant future :¬) To book me for your glamour, fashion or boudoir portfolio shoot, just call on 01924 229800.

Kirsty & Ben at Hotel St Pierre

A hot and humid day today with the threat of very heavy rain which we were hoping against the odds would hold off for Kirsty & Ben’s wedding at St James’ Church, Thornes and then Hotel St Pierre. However, the forecast was about right for once and we got the first shower as we came out of church after the service! We worked jolly quick to get some group shots as the rain approached and we managed a quick few images of the bridal party but then the rain came and thwarted the shoot as we tried for a few shots of the bride and groom. We stuck it out though and used the heavy tree canopy for shelter until we managed to get to the car and head for Hotel St Pierre. Just as we were leaving the church, however, the rain looked to be passing as quickly as it had come so we headed off to Newmillerdam to try our luck. The bridal party had already gone on ahead to the hotel but a quick phone call sorted that and they met us at the Dam Inn where, unbelievably, we managed to park and headed off down the side of the lake for a few photos. We only had 15mins or so as the threat of rain and the amount of dirt gathering on the wedding dress was causing concern, not for the bride but the groom :¬) So, off we headed up to the hotel for the reception but incredibly we had come away with some outdoor shots which, at 9 o’clock this morning, I really wasn’t expecting to get! Here are a few, still have to download images from the speeches and evening reception but I thought I’d post a few straight away.

To book me for your wedding, just call the studio on 01924 229800 for a chat or to arrange to drop by and see some sample albums. You can also catch me in person at the Nostell Priory wedding fayre on September 2nd 11-4pm

family portrait: The Greens in the studio

The Greens were all back in Yorkshire today for their mother’s 70th birthday and decided that a framed photo of her kids and granddaughter would be a great gift with a personal touch. The brothers and sisters all live away these days so it will be a great surprise for their mum – Rob, Julia and Bethany are from Birmingham, sister Jackie and husband Chris live in LA and brother Andrew lives in Perth, Australia! Today they all congregated in Wakefield and put the jet lag behind them for a quick shoot in the studio. The main aim of the shoot was to get a shot of all of them that could be framed up but as ever, it’s easier said than done with little ones in the studio :¬) here are a few images from the shoot
