NEW College results day

An early start today at NEW college, Pontefract to be on hand to photograph the pupils on results day and, despite the doors opening at 7:00am, I was surprised that the place was heaving with pupils queueing at the door when I arrived at 06:50hrs! The main brief was to shoot some portraits of the pupils who had achieved outstanding results in the A levels and each of these pupils had been given a ticket along with their results sheet to report to me for a photo for the school. Lots of joyous faces all round and the college is reporting a 99% pass rate which is pretty impressive going, including one pupil securing a place at Oxford University on the strength of his results.

Pre-wedding: Joanne & Lee, Nostell Priory

Joanne & Lee are getting married next month at Wragby Church and then on to Nostell Priory for the reception. As the wedding is now only 4 weeks away, we decided to meet up to run through the wedding schedule but as always at these meetings, we did a pre-wedding shoot to get the couple used to the camera. Both Joanne and Lee were pretty relaxed about the whole affair amd I think it shows in the photos. I’m looking forward to shooting on the big day which is coming up rapidly – no idea where this year went!

Excite Clothing Competition Winner

August 12, 2012

A few weeks back we shot some impact shots of Jenna to use in promoting Excite Clothing’s range of clothes aimed at plus sized girls when they attended a fashion event in Leeds. Excite, who were one of the event’s main sponsors, also ran a competion to win three outfits and a photoshoot with me and today Louise, who’s name was randomly drawn from a hat, was over in the studio with Excite to claim the prize. We did the first session in the studio using the barley and purple infinity curves I’d been using a couple of days ago when I shot Alex’s portfolio and this was to get Louise used to the camera and to get rid of nerves. Following this, we headed out into the garden and shot the three outfits again in the warm summer sun. I think Louise relaxed a lot as the shoot went on and we ended up with a nice set of images for her to remember the shoot by. Here are a few from the session.

Alex’s glamour portfolio

Alex made the journey up from Birmingham for me shoot her glamour portfolio today. Currently working in promotions, Alex wants to take her career further and needed a strong set of portfolio images to show to agencies so she felt it was well worth the drive up north for the shoot. She’d only had one shoot prior to me but not with a professional glamour photographer so the images she got didn’t cut the mustard. Today was all about getting some strong impact images that would make Alex’s portfolio stand out from the rest. We shot a lot of images on various infinity curves before moving into the bathroom and a bedroom to finish the shoot. I could tell she was a little nervous to start with and the tenseness shows in the early shots for me, but towards the end of the shoot Alex had relaxed and we got some super images of her to finish with. She’s already booked to come back in September to update her portfolio and get more shots on location.

Anna & Russell’s wedding at The Kyte Hotel, Darrington

I said it wouldn’t be a long wait from the pre-wedding blog post to the wedding post :¬) I met up with Anna at The Kyte Hotel, Darrington where she was getting ready before travelling a short distance to Darrington Church for the ceremony. Despite a sunny start to the day, the showers began just as she we were about to do the bridal portraits outside the hotel! Still. we managed a few under the shade of a chestnut tree before heading off to catch up with Russell and the boys at church. We braved the light rain for a few shots but before long the showers had passed and we had a glorious day for the photos. We did the majority of the shoot at the picturesque village church and then did a few more loose shots at the hotel. Despite a heavy downpour during the speeches, we managed to get out again in the early evening to a cornfield I’d scouted earlier and had 10 minutes shooting against an amazing thunder sky with glorious evening light. Lots of images to go at but I am so busy catching up with edits, I’ve only managed a sampler for now.

Cycling in Edam

August 5, 2012

Just managed to squeeze in a week’s break in Holland and I hadn’t realised how much in need of a break I was! It’s been an incredibly busy patch just lately and the blog doesn’t reflect all that I’ve been shooting! I will get round to adding stuff in over the next week or so but I’ve a whole raft of shoots coming up as well so it’s hard keeping up at the moment. Anyway, we took the motorhome over to Holland and based near Edam for a week of gentle biking, eating and drinking. Although I took all my serious landscape kit with me, I just ended up taking a few holiday snaps with a small camera. Here’s just a small selection from the holiday album.
